Why an autobiography section? Well.. I want to review the game of Super Mario Bros, to freshen your memory - and get you in the Mario spirit. As we all know, Super Mario consisted of 3 games on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) and all were obviously the best games at the time. Personally - I think they were better then our 3d games of today. For those of you who have never experienced the Super Mario Bros, I highly recommend that you run out and get Gameboy Advanced. Then get Super Mario Bros Deluxe, it is for Gameboy color, but it'll work for the Advanced also. Then get Super Mario Advance and Super Mario Advance 2, they are all pretty much a copy of their originals on NES, except there were some minor changes and new additions.

In 1985, the new Nintendo Entertainment System was released. It was a hot new system with amazing 8-bit graphics. One of the pilots for this system was one of our all-time favorites, Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. pretty much made the video game industry. It's side-scrolling power made it one of the most awesome games yet. You could power-up, conquer worlds, and eat mushrooms. Super Mario Bros. made Mario what he is today. This is where Mario got stronger with the Super Mushroom, kill the Goombas, and bust blocks. This game also revealed the plot that we have grown used to over the years. Evil King Koopa has taken over the Mushroom World and taken the beautiful Princess Toadstool hostage. You must battle through eight worlds, each different in their own, respective way, on the way to the final boss. In this game, as I said, you can grow bigger with the Super Mushroom, shoot fireballs at enemies with the Fire Flower, and use the Starman, which makes you invincible for a short period of time. You will also encounter a wide-range of now-common enemies like the Koopa-Troopa, the Goomba, and the Hammer Bros. This game is one of the best all-time. It was the best seller until the Super Mario Bros. trilogy ended. You will enjoy this game as almost everyone that has slid it into their NES has!

After Super Mario Bros. was a smash-hit, Nintendo went to work developing a sequel. What they released first was not what we saw here in the USA, and I will explain why. NOJ, or Nintendo of Japan, came out with a game that was similar to the original. It was supposed to pick up where SMB left off. Only this version was much more difficult with obstacles like Poison Mushrooms. This game was also much longer, going on with Worlds 9, A, B, C and D after you beat the eighth world. So, NOA, or Nintendo of America, used a Japanese game that was called Doki-Doki Panic, that was set in the mid-east, where four characters battled through a dream land called SubCon, where the evil toad Wart has taken the Dream Wand and transformed all the people into vegetables, what he hates. The story is that Mario has a dream that during a camping trip, the find a cave. There is a long stairway to a door that leads to a magical dream land. When he opens it, he wakes up and realizes it was no dream... In the American version, Ninendo transformed the four characters into the Mario characters we are all used to. Each one had different abilities (which become noted in the future). Mario was the most rounded-off, with average run, jump, and strength. Luigi had the highest jump, but weak with jump and speed. Toad was the fastest and strongest, but was weakest at jumping. Princess, the final character, could jump and float for a few seconds, but is overall the weakest character. Mario faces some new characters, like Birdo and Shyguy, that are rarely heard of again. Although this game is not very easy, you should enjoy it!

With two highly successful Super Mario Bros. games, Nintendo went working to make a trilogy, one that was highly publicized and one that also very great. Super Mario Bros. 3 was released in 1990. It had many new, amazing feautures that nobody thought a NES was capable of. Nintendo had to push the due date just to perfect it!
Super Mario Bros. 3 had many new options and features. Here are some of them:
- Map feature allows you to track your progress
- Ability to save power-up items
- New power-ups: Raccoon, Tanooki, Hammer, Frog, Kuribo
The deal is you, as Mario, must travel through seven worlds. Bowser has sent his seven children (Larry, Morton Jr., Wendy O., Iggy, Roy, Lemmy, Ludwig von) have gone to each of the sub-kingdoms and used the King's magic wand against them and turned the magic wand on him. You must defeat the Koopa Kid and return the wand back to the King so he can return to normal. After the seventh world, you recieve a ransom note from Bowser that says he has taken Princess captive and that you must battle one more world. This game is obviously one of the all-time bests. Although it's long, it's a classic!

After three hit NES Mario games, Nintendo stopped selling the NES and released their 16-bit system, the Super NES. One of the pilots for the SNES was Super Mario World. The plot for Super Mario World is similar to that of Super Mario Bros. 3. Only this time, Mario meets up with a new friend... While vacationing in Dinosaur Island with Luigi, Princess, and the rest of the bunch, Mario meets up with a dinosaur named Yoshi. He learns that his friends have been taken hostage by Bowser and that Mario must save them, again, from the Koopa Kids. After Mario saves all of Yoshi's friends, Mario must save the captured Princess from Bowser. Although this game is similar to the original SMB games in many ways, it is also very different. Dinosaur World is a magical place, as can be said with kingdom titles like Chocolate Island. Mario meets many new enemies like Magikoopa and the different color Koopa Troopas, that can give Yoshi different powers. There is the usual "100 coins for a 1-up" but there are also Dinosaur Coins. Collect all five in a stage and get a 1-up. You can also have Yoshi eat the berries in all the levels, which add to your coin total. There are many strange, new aspects to Super Mario World. Try to figure the rest of them out as you battel through Dinosaur World!
